You're invited! Bring your friends and family to Blacksmith Blacksmiths and Soldiers Weekend 2026 and celebrate Michigan history and craftsmanship at our historic farmstead. This unique combo event features our largest gathering of blacksmith demonstrators along with living history interpreters sharing the details of Civil War soldier experiences.

Other craft demonstrations and living history representations will be occurring simultaneously. Tours of the historic farmhouse will be available. Enjoy hearty concessions, shop unique vendors, try hands on activies, and listen to musicians throughout the day.

The Waterloo Area Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of the Waterloo area by operating the Waterloo Farm Museum and Dewey School Museum. We offer opportunities for volunteers to get involved in our projects and events, helping to keep our community's heritage....

๐ŸŽจ Join us for a colorful afternoon of creativity at the Waterloo Farm Museum!

The Waterloo Area Historical Society is excited to partner with The Natural Dye Company for a hands-on Natural Dye Workshop ~ Marigolds & Madder Root on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from Noonโ€“3:30 PM.

Participants will learn the art of natural textile dyeing using marigolds and madder root , two beautiful plant-based dyes that can be grown right in your own garden. Guests will create their own one-of-a-kind silk scarf or cotton bandana using a marigold dye bath and a shibori-inspired resist technique before finishing with a vibrant madder root dye bath for rich red patterns and striking contrast.

No experience is necessary, and beginners are encouraged to attend. Children are welcome with an accompanying adult.

This workshop is led by Kristan of The Natural Dye Company, whose passion for botanical dyes blends art, fashion, history, and experimentation into a truly unique experience.

Windmill Restoration Update!

Weโ€™re excited to share that the fan blades have been fully painted and are looking fantastic! This is a big visual milestone in the restoration of our historic windmill.

Next up: tower restoration begins in February. This phase will focus on stabilizing and preserving the structure so it can stand tall for generations to come.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this project so far โ€” your generosity and encouragement are what keep this work moving forward. More updates coming soon!
