The East End Seaport Museum is pleased to announce the formation of the Radio Controlled Model Yacht Club to promote radio controlled sailboat racing. By becoming a member you can learn the skills for racing model sailboats. If you are a "big boat" sailor, this is a way to practice tactics. All are welcome. The Yacht Club, located at the East End Seaport Museum in Greenport, NY will hold regattas
the third Sunday in the month from May thru September. Opening day for the season is the third Sunday in May. Regattas start at 1:00pm. A schedule of club events is posted in the museum, published in the East End Seaport Museum Newsletter, and on the RC Model Yacht Club page. To start we will sail the CR914 class of boats which is one of the hottest classes in the American Model Yachting Association (AMYA).The 914 millimeter-long CR 914 (about 3 feet) is based on the original design of the International America's Cup Class. The yacht is a high performance racing machine that sails well in the extremely wide range of wind velocities generic to the East End of Long Island. It is a One Design Class. In a one-design class the objective is for the performance of the boats to be equal. When you win or lose a race it's because of how you sailed and tuned your boat. Classes will be held early in the season in sailing and racing skills. The CR 914 can be purchased fully built from East End Seaport Museum. The Museum offers some CR914 model sail boats for charter for regattas. Crew are available! Join us for our opening day the 3rd Sunday in May at the East End Seaport Museum.
