ABOUT WAUGH HOUSE: Built in 1826, it is the oldest brick house in Greenville and one of the earliest brick houses between Pittsburgh and Erie. The Federal style architecture has been preserved and the stepped gables and tripartite window are original

. In the early 1990's the First National Bank sold the house to the Historical Society for the sum of one dollar. A Historic Survey was completed and the house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. In June 2004 the Waugh House Museum opened its doors to the public. ABOUT GAHS: The Greenville Area Historical Society was organized in 1978 by a group of dedicated Greenville citizens to preserve the rich history of our town. The Society maintains a museum - the Waugh House at 23 West Main Street. The Society presents a yearly lecture series and sponsors other activities such as ethnic heritage festivals, walking tours and an oral history program focusing on longtime area residents. A tour and a talk on Greenville history is provided for school classes visiting the museum. Assistance in research on local history is available on request.
