Museum of the Mississippi Delta Experience the Mississippi Delta through prehistoric fossils, Native American pottery, regional art, Civil War history and agriculture.

Museum of the Mississippi Delta is a dynamic museum about not only cotton and agricultural history in the Delta, but also about so much more. The Museum's gallery space highlights Mississippi artists with particular emphasis on artists of the Delta. This Mississippi artwork combines with history - local, military, and agricultural - along with an immense collection of Native American artifacts to

create a museum that has something for everyone to enjoy. The Fossils, Feathers and Fur and the Swamp Room also lend an added visual and auditory intrigue to the museum for young and old. Artifacts to art are creatively applied to display the history and culture of the deep south Delta. Guided tours are available.

"Mississippi Bears Witness" opens September 10 at the Museum of the Mississippi Delta, with a reception on Wednesday, September 9 at 5:30PM. Admission is $10, and Museum members are free.

The exhibit brings together never-before-seen photography, firsthand survivor testimony, rare maps, and memorabilia from three Mississippians who lived through 9/11 up close.

History told by the people who were actually standing inside it. See you there.

25 years later, a new generation is learning what September 11th means...

Built by former teacher (and Lamar Liddell's daughter) Elizabeth Liddell, the museum has developed a curriculum for students of all ages, exploring history, courage, service, resilience, and emergency response.

Daniel Brasier grew up in Indianola. On September 11, 2001, he was a 20-something starting his career at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, with an office in the World Trade Center's South Tower.

He was three floors from the exit when the second plane hit his building. He made it out. Not everyone did.

Now a software executive in California, Brasier is sharing his story with the Museum of the Mississippi Delta so it isn't forgotten.

When Ground Zero needed help, Greenwood's own Lamar Liddell answered the call.

As superintendent of the Jackson Hotshots, an elite 25-person firefighting and emergency response team, Liddell led efforts to create aerial maps to coordinate search-and-rescue operations at the World Trade Center site.

He kept those maps. He kept the gear he wore that week. Now they're on exhibit as part of "Mississippi Bears Witness."

"We were a country again," Liddell says of the days after 9/11. Come see why that moment still matters. Opens September 10.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, Greenwood resident Brian Barnes was a young filmmaker living in New York City. When the towers were struck, he grabbed his camera and headed straight toward Lower Manhattan.

He spent the day, and long into the night, documenting what he saw on the streets near Ground Zero. Those photographs have never been publicly shown. Until now.

"Honored" is the word Barnes uses to describe seeing his images become part of this exhibit.

On September 10, the Museum of the Mississippi Delta opens "Mississippi Bears Witness" — a new exhibit marking 25 years since 9/11, told through the eyes of people who were actually there.
