Robin Whitfield Studio

Robin Whitfield Studio gallery, studio and workshop space Robin works on location in the rivers, swamps and forests of the deep south.

Her process is about connectivity to the natural world. She regards her work as visual poetry and spiritual conversations in the language of color and shape. She works on paper with traditional watercolors and with pigments gathered from the wild. "My mission as an artist and human is to spend as much time as possible in natural systems, particularly on public land. I hope to inspire others to go

outside and explore these wild places!”

Robin lives in Grenada, Mississippi. She graduated from Delta State University in 1996 with a BFA in painting and drawing. She has been on the Mississippi Arts Commission Roster since 2006, an artist-in-residence for ArtPlace Mississippi since 2002 and an Audubon Master Naturalist of Mississippi since 2007. She has given creative workshops and exhibited her work widely across the state for the past 15 years. Her artworks and illustrations have been featured in numerous publications including “Eudora Welty’s World: words on nature” edited by Patti Carr-Black. She was selected to be the Artist-In Residence at Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge for the fall of 2014. Visiting Robin’s studio is an experience all to itself. You’ll feel like you’ve walked into a Natural History Museum with bird feathers, sun-bleached skulls and bones, smoothed stones, and shells adorning every nook and cranny. Grenada, one of the oldest cities in Mississippi, is perched on top of Loess Bluffs just above the edge of the great Mississippi Delta. While much of the city is undergoing great economic change, Robin’s studio, nestled in a sleepy downtown area, keeps a steady heartbeat of magic and charm. Located in an old early 1900s carriage house, her studio has been in operation since 2001 and is a collective for Robin's creative products and services including original artworks, illustration, workshops and creative products. Visit her in historic downtown Grenada right off the square at 125 Green St.

Thrilled to share that I’ve received a Mississippi Arts Commission Fellowship! This support is more than funding—it gives me the gift of focused time in wild places with solitude and space to create and explore new ideas.

This has been a dream of mine since I graduated from Delta State with a BFA in Painting. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the support of my state art agency and all my friends and family who have encouraged me to apply.

A HUGE thanks to my state and congressional legislators for their support in funding the Mississippi Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts
