Today marks the anniversary of Edsel Bryant Ford’s passing on May 26, 1943, at the age of 49.

A son, husband, father, leader, and innovator, Edsel helped shape not only Ford Motor Company, but also the cultural landscape of Detroit through his vision, generosity, and commitment to community.

Alongside his wife, Eleanor Clay Ford, he supported institutions like the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Detroit Institute of Arts while raising their four children here at Ford House. His legacy continues to inspire the mission and stories shared across the estate today.

Want to learn more? Check out our free, permanent exhibition inside our Visitor Center, The Ford Family Story. It offers an intimate look at the family behind the legacy and how their lives continue to inspire future generations.

Only a few tables remain for Eleanor's Birthday Tea & Tour. Sunday, June 14, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Lake Shore Room overlooking Ford Cove.

Mark what would have been Eleanor Clay Ford's 130th birthday with a chef-prepared tea service of savories, pastries, and sweets, with live music from Florella Strings, followed by a self-paced exploration of the Main Residence and grounds.

Tea is sponsored by The Spice & Tea Exchange of Grosse Pointe, which will host a pop-up shop alongside TWAL.shop, a Grosse Pointe-based design studio whose Pop Art and Classic Christmas collections celebrate the places people love most.

Reserve your table at the link below.

Happy Memorial Day weekend! If you're boating on Lake St. Clair, here's something to know about Ford Cove before you set out.

The felled trees and natural features along our shoreline aren't storm debris. They were placed intentionally as part of the Shoreline Restoration Project to create habitat for fish, turtles, birds, and the native plants returning to the cove.

Thank you for your support and patience during this major project. We're grateful to have the community alongside us as the work continues.

Please give the shoreline a slow pass and a wide berth. For project updates and details: https://fordhouse.org/about/shoreline-restoration-project/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=awareness_shoreline-restoration_20260522&utm_content=shoreline-restoration-organic
