Atelier Art Gallery and Studio

Atelier Art Gallery and Studio My gallery got flooded 3 times, so I decide it was time to shut the place down. The reason I kept it open as long as I did, was the nice shop in the back.

It is sad right now, that all that equipment is in storage. What happens next, I just don't know. Painting: Oils Acrylics, and Watercolours, Photography and Ceramics At sometime next month I ahould have my Pottery lab set up and I will be offering ceramic classes.

The atelier Art Gallery and Studio has been closed for several years now, and I don't know how to end this on Facebook. It is like I got friends on facebook that have past on, but they are still on Facebook.

April a year ago, I returned from visisting my Daughter in North Carolina, to find 2 inches of water in my Gallery/Studio/Shop. I decided it was time to shut it down. I moved all my shop equipment to storage. The reason I kept the place open as long as it did, was the nice shop. Now all that equipment is in storage. What will happen next, I am not sure. I might add, my place got flooded 2 more times that spring.

I spent most of the day working on this pot. Now I threw the base pot yesterday, but I had to let it get leather hard to work on the Dragonflies and swamp grass.

This Painting Won the Inspiration Award at the Gulf Coast Art Association Edgewater Mall show in Biloxi. This Sunday the 11th of October 2015 is the last day of the show. I haven't really painted in oils since my college days at Delta State. It is like coming home, and I am really pleased at how this painting turned out. Now as I say the above, the cover painting of the Live Oak was done in oils. I had a lot of old paints I cut the tubes open and painted the above cover picture of the Live Oak with palette knives, as a way of getting rid of my old oil paints.

I haven't painted very much in oils after I grduated from Delta State College, Oh, Yes it was a College back then and not a University. Oils are messy. You have to clean your burshes with paint thinner, then soap and water. Oh, I will forget about a brush I have put down somewhere, only to find it dried out and hard as a brick. So I keep paint remover on hand to resurrect my dead paint brushes. If I get paint on me, I have transferred that paint to my truck and to my home furniture. For these reasons I stopped painting in oils to keep domestic harmony. I now live with my Son and Hannah and Beau. They love me no matter what I do. Now Hannah mosty sleeps in my Son's room, but if he is tired of her she will sleep in my room, but it Pi$$eS Beau off. Beau will get mad at me when I love on Hannah in the living room. Oh, yes did I mention Beau is a carzy male Dachshund /Rat Terrier Mix. Hannah is my Son's 100 German Shepherd. One last note: Hannah doesn't like anyone coming near our yard, mostly people in uniforms, such as Post Man Police,FedEx, she really has it out for the UPS Person. The Gas Company installed an electronic meter read so they do not have to even get out of their trucks to read our gas meter.

I have a good friend here in Gulfport Mississippi, who has a Daughter who is a Freshman at Miss State. He wanted me to Paint a Mississippi State Painting for his Daughter's Dorm room. Her major is some kind of Chemical Engineering, so many of her classes are in the Swalm School of Chemical Engineering Building or Hall. I was not able to finish the painting for Christmas, so this is a work in progress. As you can see she is a member of the Tri-Delta Sorority. Note: the Christmas Season gets so hectic that I really did not have the time I needed to spend on this painting, so I wanted to get as much done as Possible. Now that I have had a talk with the future owner I can finish this work.

This chopping block I found in someones driveway. It was so weathered it was barn gray. It was in parts, and I was sure it was rotted. I was sure until I kicked it. I then knew it was solid. I ask the woman what she was going to do with it. She was more or less trying to get rid of the thing, as her husband was not going to do anything with it. I paid her $15.00, and I heard her say I ought to be paying you to get rid of the thing.

Wednesday, I drove around Jones Park and Gulfport Harbor, looking for some older boats to Photograph and later make into a painting. Most of the boats were newer High Dollar Yacht type boats. This Anchor kept saying, "What about me. Look how the sun makes me look. Also, I will be a challenge for you to paint, especially in the style you have been working in lately!" So for an half of an hour I walk around this Memorial Anchor taking pictures of it form every angle. One plaque said Dedicated to the people who died in the Camille Hurricane. Just for your information, I was living in Biloxi, when Camille hit. I was in an apartment a block north of the Tracks.

I posted this painting earlier, but I was not finished. When I am finished I sign the work. The name is the Three Shrimp. Now I think of it as the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost, of Gulf Coast. Sure there are others but the Shrimp are the Holy Grail.
