It’s International Museum Day! Did you know the United States has more museums than McDonalds and Starbucks combined? The International Council of Museums created to “raise awareness about the fact museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”

Did you know that the man for whom Woodward Avenue (on the City’s Westside) is named is credited with founding the Tulane School of Architecture? That was one of the many fascinating tidbits of history passed along by Cindy Easterling at our May meeting…her topic, to mark the 100th anniversary of its founding, was the history of the Gulf Coast Art Association. William Woodward was instrumental in the formation of the Association after he retired to the Mississippi Coast in 1924.

Remember the opening of the Association Art Show on May 17, 2-4 PM, at the Depot (1419 27th Avenue)!
