Yea!!! My latest catches. Getting more expensive but i believe I broke the textile pricing monopoly. Theres always a first dealer to fall when the amount gets bigger😉. Its kinda midevil for me, i carry his textiles around like battle trophies. Show the dealers perched in their lofty castles, tempt them to come play. The big ikat fragment is super cool, 19th century, three dealers guessed i paid $800-1000. Like I am mad! I tell dealers- I sleep in the cheapest places in town, hitchhike to get there, eat (***the most wonderful pre made salads) from the local supermarket- all so I can buy beautiful textiles and feed my three children (jk🤪). There is a backpacker motto (I created) "sleep cheap, travel cheap, eat well". The 3 small ikat fragments I offered 100,000 som each, thats only $7 as I am told over and over. Somehow that was agreed to without a telephone call. These are mid 19th C, the main dealer, "Akbar's House", in Bukhara said sadly, I should have paid at least $100 each. His, similar size he wants $350. Happy to say, he and other dealers guff at the prices I paid when I do my show and tell. Negotiations 300 level class: I do this so he knows I will spend hundreds or thousands and if he wants the zeros he has to sell at my price which often means he's enriching the pot. Tomorrow we will discuss his pieces before i leave.🤞🤞🤞

On display now is a silk uncut robe with beautifully woven auspicious symbols, Chinese characters for longevity, five clawed dragons. Silver and Gold wrapped thread is used throughout. Heavy and natural dyed, no bleeding. Due to its uniqueness its hard to date. Conservatively I would think early 19th C. I would love to hear more from the world of textile lovers.

Just hung this above the meditation area. This silk is filled with bats, very fragile. That's the main reason for unfolding and hanging it. The silk is brittle so I am protecting it under plexiglass.
Bats in Buddhism represent luck, success, wisdom- the usual suspects of all symbolism. Orange is color of highest rank. This quality is exquisite. The border gold and jacquard sw****ka design woven into the material throughout is at the heart of Buddhism. The sw****ka is the "well being" of Buddhism, symbolizing the feet, or the footprints, of the Buddha.

Until you see, its hard to appreciate the ability and time to create an authentic textile belonging to a specific culture. This art has been handed down thru generations as long as a culture hasn't lost its identity. The first casualty of globalization is textile art.
So when you take the time to look at my collection at www.antiquetextilemuseum.com keep in mind a person made each piece by hand. These patterns, and characters represent usually 1000yrs plus of previous skilled artisans. Globalization to a culture will wipe that out within one generation.

Picked this antique textile up in Bolivia, quite unusual. I was hanging around and buying textiles from one of the dealers in Sucre. He would help me with the various regions and age of each textile I bought thru Bolivia but he had not seen this before. Lovely design in a deep indigo, thicker weight wool and longer size. My guess is that it came from a village in the higher altitudes. Picture is of both sides any white granules you see is from the organic insect stuff I throw around. Welcome to the Antique Textile Museum, 5125 Gulfport Blvd. S, Gulfport FL 33707. Open by appointment 727-204-7305. $20 40 minute tour.

Most are from the late 19th C. thru 1910's. Love the Victorian color schemes and motifs. If interested in purchasing please PM me.

Added a pillar rug to the ceiling at the entrance. Wanted to add a pillar but the rug is longer than ceiling height. And an old Indian canopy above the Indian textile area.
