This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Whether their lives were lost on the battlefield or after returning home, their courage, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Because of them, we enjoy the freedoms we hold dear today.

We remember.
We honor.
We thank you. 🇺🇸

From all of us at the State Capital Publishing Museum, we extend our deepest gratitude to those who gave everything for our nation and to the families who carry their memory forward each day.

🌿 Help Keep History Beautiful! 🌿

The State Capital Publishing Museum is looking for a local lawn care company willing to donate lawn maintenance services to help us keep our historic property looking its best for visitors, school groups, and the community.

What we are needing:
• Regular lawn care and maintenance as needed
• Mowing & edging
• Fertilizing
• W**d control/spraying

In return:
✅ Your company’s logo will be proudly displayed on our website
âś… If you provide a yard sign, we will proudly place it on our little patch of historic Oklahoma ground
âś… Recognition and appreciation from our volunteers and visitors all year long

As a nonprofit museum, every donated service helps us put more resources toward preserving Oklahoma history and providing educational programs for the community.

If your company would like to partner with us, please send us a message at [email protected] or call us at
+1 405-282-4123. We would love to work with a local business that takes pride in helping preserve history one lawn stripe at a time. 🌱

We’d like to take a moment to recognize the incredible work of our building manager, Johnny Stokes, on the second-floor offices. His attention to detail and dedication to preserving the character of the space truly shine through—this restoration is simply beautiful.

This particular office would have served as the Managing Editor’s Office, a place where important decisions were made, stories were shaped, and the daily rhythm of the newspaper came to life. Thanks to Johnny’s craftsmanship, you can almost step back in time and imagine the energy and purpose that once filled the room.

We are so grateful for the care and pride he brings to preserving the history of the State Capital Publishing Museum. Work like this helps ensure that these stories—and the spaces they lived in—continue to inspire for generations to come.

On April 22, 1889, Frank Greer left Winfield, Kansas, and joined the rush of an estimated 50,000 to 100,000 people racing into Oklahoma Land Run of 1889. Their goal? To claim a piece of the 1.9 million acres opened for settlement—160 acres at a time.

Greer had a plan.

Once his friends arrived from Winfield with his tent, he quickly set it up on his newly claimed land. Then he waited—not for more supplies, but for something far more important: a train carrying his first batch of newspapers.

That paper was The Daily State Capital—often called “the first paper published in Oklahoma.” And it sold like hotcakes.

It didn’t take long for Greer’s operation to grow. Soon, a proper building was up and running, equipped with a Campbell cylinder press and several job presses—all powered by steam. Every bit of it was funded by the success of that bold first day.

From a tent on the prairie to a full printing operation, Frank Greer didn’t just claim land—he helped give a brand-new territory its voice.
