We met with SMA today & checked on the Ling.
To make things clear; SMA owns the USS Ling; no one else. The Navy is not transferring ownership to anyone.
SMA with the help of the USS Ling Volunteers have been moving forward with the Ling. A memorial in place is proposed. The proposed vision is not being released until finalized. This may take time due to its nature. Please remain patient & continue standing with us.
Below is an official statement from SMA.
"Followers and Supporters of the Submarine Veterans Association, Inc, NJ and Volunteers.
We write to advise that SMA Board of Trustees and Volunteers have been meeting and organizing various action plans, all with the goal of trying its utmost to preserve the USS Ling as a continuing fitting memorial.
Current SMA activities include exploring the possibility of leaving the USS Ling exactly where it has been for 50 years.
We will keep you advised accordingly." "SMA Board."

We're still here. Not much to report yet, but we've been meeting with SMA. The site has seen a new stone bulkhead installed for the future river walk.
As with any project of this magnitude there are obstacles; our present economy being a big one. We will continue to forge forward as we continue with fluent talks with SMA.

Inspection Report as to current physical status of USS Ling SS297.

To dispel some rumors about the goings on at Ling:
1) The Submarine Memorial Association (SMA) still maintains control (both physically and legally) to the Ling and has access control. This means noone without express permission from the SMA is allowed to board the vessel.
2) Louisville Naval Museum (LNM) does not own or have rights to the boat. This means that they have no access to the boat currently although the organization claims otherwise.
3) Work will not resume in the spring. Again, without explicit permission from the SMA; noone is to board (or work on) the Ling.
4) Ling is currently not floating. Ling was ballasted down prior to the stop work earlier this year to ensure the boat was secured in a stable condition.
5) There are multiple fundraising campaigns involving Ling. You can donate to whichever one you wish; although if the fundraiser isn't being shared through the official page (the one making this post) there is no way to ensure the funds will actually go towards the Ling.
6) There are multiple pages regarding Ling. Please be apprehensive and have a questioning attitude when reading updates from these pages. The only OFFICIAL page is USS Ling SS297. Please follow that page for official updates.
7) Ling does not have an official website. Once again, any money donated through websites that claim to be collecting funds for the Ling have a chance of not actually contributing to the boat.
Hopefully this has cleared some of the air surrounding Ling: remember, keep the faith.

Further, immediate Individual Augmentee recall is authorized for SCCM(SEAL/PJ/FPJ/SCW/EXW/AW/SW) Kristoph Kringle as well as DEVGRU 12-25 members: SO1(SEAL) Dasher, SO1(SEAL) Dancer, SO2(SEAL) Prancer, SO2(SEAL) Vixen, SO3(SEAL) Comet, SO2(SEAL) Cupid, SO2(SEAL) Donner, and SO3(SEAL) Blitzen. SOC(SEAL) Rudolph is authorized to report for duty upon successful NAMI waiver for a condition relating to his nose.
2. Due to the complex nature of JSOC mission requirements, relaxed grooming standards have been authorized.
