We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our longtime board member, Emily Cook. Emily and her family have been woven into the fabric of Hamilton’s history for generations, and her love for our town—and its stories—shone through in everything she did.

Her warmth, her insight, and her passion for preserving local history will be missed by all of us.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Cook family during this difficult time.

Yesterday we had a large turnout to hear Susan Kalloch speak on the history of the Appleton family. She took us through the generations and the history of the property. Her anecdotes brought history alive.

Our next presentation will be on December 6th at the library. Vernon Chandler will take us on a moving tour of American Military Cemeteries in Europe.

Did you know that the Ipswich River watershed has supported productive fisheries and shellfish beds since pre-colonial times? The river also provided power for early industries, including tanneries, and was central to the textile industry in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Join the Hamilton Historical Society for Gordon Harris’ presentation, “Industrial and Natural History of the Ipswich River, and the Ipswich River Watershed” this Saturday, September 27th at 1:30 at the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library.
