Today it serves as the star attraction in our museum complex and as an Amtrak Kwik-Trak Kiosk station. The Hamlet Depot & Museums Complex is located in Historic Downtown Hamlet, North Carolina. We operate under The Hamlet Historic Depot, Inc. Non Profit Organization. The star of our museum complex is the Queen Anne Victorian Hamlet Historic Depot which was built in 1900. It was originally the Seab

oard Air Line Railway Passenger Depot and was also known as the Hub of the Seaboard during the heydays of passenger train travel with upwards of 28 to 32 passenger trains daily. It remains the most photographed historic train station in the Eastern United States. Today, it still serves as an active Amtrak passenger terminus, as well as a museum. We have both regular and interative exhibits, which allow our visitors to explore the rich history of the Seaboard Air Line and Seaboard Coast Line Railroads. Our museum complex includes the Tornado Building, which houses a full-sized replica of the Tornado Steam Locomotive, vintage automobiles, our Silver Meteor Model Train Exhibit, and a large O Scale Model Train. Then, in the Hamlet Visitor's Center is our museum devoted to the History of Hamlet. You can also follow us on Instagram
We are open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm and weekends from 1pm-5pm. To schedule a group tour please call Mon-Fri day during business hours (910) 582-0603. The holiday schedule may vary, please check for updates on the page.

Thanks so much Historic Hamlet, North Carolina for sharing this great article about Hamlet from way back when! ❤️

The following is an article that appeared in the Cleveland Press about Hamlet on August 20, 1942.

“Midway between the capitals of the Carolinas lies Hamlet, North Carolina which could probably claim the world’s “most visited small town” record. With a population of 5,111, Hamlet is passed through annually by an estimated 1,350,000 civilians and military men on furlough. Reason: Hamlet is the main junction of the Seaboard Railway, whence lines diverge to the four compass points.

Here at Hamlet, all phases of railroading are laid before the eye. Fueling of steam and Diesel locomotives, passenger cars being watered and iced, freight being shifted, running repairs being made --- all have their interesting features. But it is the little circular station that holds you. On the fringe of this year’s Carolina maneuvers area, Hamlet is heavily patronized by the Army. On leave, the soldiers want “first train out” to all over the United States --- some, on emergency leave, nervous and jittery, others, griping as only good soldiers can.”

One of Richmond County's own historic athletes came by the Hamlet Depot & Museums this morning. He kindly allowed us to get a picture of him with his signed jersey that is on display in the Visitor Center!
Perry Williams played for the N.Y. Giants from 1983 to 1994. The giants also won two Superbowls while Williams played.
Thank you for stopping by our museum!

It's been a wonderful day out trackside watching the trains roll by.

Here is something different, CSXT R638 load coal train has departed Hamlet earlier today with CSXT 1900 "Seaboard Air Line" heritage unit painted for the Orange Blossom Special passing over the bridge with "SEABOARD" still engraved on the side.

Hope you have a good Memorial Day tomorrow and stay cool out there.
