The Hood Museum of Art’s collection is among the oldest and largest of its kind in the United States, totaling more than 65,000 works across a broad spectrum of cultures and historical periods. The collection encompasses important holdings of American, Native American, European, African, and Melanesian art, including a significant collection of indigenous Australian contemporary art and a major ar

chive of photojournalism. Among the collection’s greatest treasures are Assyrian stone reliefs and the fresco mural cycle "The Epic of American Civilization," by José Clemente Orozco.

🗺️ ! We made it to the Whitney Museum of American Art Biennial and spotted one of our own. 😏 “SHE MUST BE A MATRIARCH” (2023), by Dartmouth Alumni Anna Tsouhlarakis '99, is a new acquisition. You can see it at the through August 23, 2026.

We're excited for the day that we can have it on view in the Hood Museum’s galleries. Until then, go see it in New York and look for a deep dive on 's sculpture in our upcoming summer 2026 “Hood Quarterly.” 🙌
