CAROL NIGHT AT THE HECKLER FARM
Friday, December 12, 7:00 PM
The Heckler Plains Folklife Society invites you to enjoy an old-fashioned Christmas celebration by caroling at the farmstead beginning at 7:00 PM. Caroling begins at 7 PM at the bonfire: it is suggested to bring flashlights.

When the caroling ends, guests are invited into the candle-lit farmhouse for hot cider, hot chocolate and homemade treats. Admission to the event is a homemade treat for the groaning board.

In true Heckler Plains tradition, we will relate stories of Christmas long ago – with tales of the Belsnickel, the visit of Kris Kinde, and how the animals can talk on Christmas Eve.

The Farmstead is located at Morris and Landis Roads (off Route 113 and Route 63) in Harleysville.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2:00 PM – GENERAL MEETING AT THE LOWER SALFORD TOWNSHIP BUILDING WITH A PRESENTATION BY JOHN RUTH ON LOWER SALFORD’S EXPERIENCE IN THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION. “Through 1776-1777, no military conflicts occurred on Lower Salford soil, but life here was profoundly affected. With an original preponderance of Mennonite, Schwenkfelder and Dunker settlement, the Township’s military enrollment was well below average, but the resulting payment of fines was outsized. As such, in the words of Ken Burns, a civil war as well as a revolt, the community had to deal with serious polarization. A half dozen local family stories from those years can bring us palpably and sympathetically into the birth moment of our sweet land of liberty.”

We're grateful for our members, John Ruth and Lee Hallman, the colonial craftsmen and women who shared their talents with our guests, Lower Salford Township and Mother Nature for giving us perfect weather. Join us on August 22, 2026, when we plan to incorporate the 250th Anniversary celebration of the Declaration of Independence.
