On Saturday June 20th I was invited to the Vietnam Veterans of America – Buckeye Chapter Council for their General Membership Meeting. We had a wonderful meal and then they awarded 11 plaques for service in 2026. I was fortunate enough to be honored as the Civilian of the Year for Military History.

I want to thank the officers and veterans who made this possible, especially Gene Wilt.

Something crazy happened today. I power line broke apart and fell near our building. It put holes in the concrete, started the grass on fire, blew out the traffic light control box and hit my sign damaging several panels and frying the wiring. Lots of electrical work ahead.

Today Greg Miller and his grandson dropped off the uniforms of WWI veteran Clyde E. Williamson. He was the grandfather of Greg. Clyde was born in 1886 and served in the 2nd Infantry Division in the 17th Artillery. He was prominent in the Coshocton School system as a teacher and a principle.

Only son PVT John “Bud” Daum was Killed in Action on June 8, 1944 in Normandy, he was 20 years old…

Born on April 24, 1924 to Paul & Francis Daum in Marshfield, Wisconsin, John Anton “Bud” Daum was their only son with three sisters. He enlisted in the Army and volunteered for the paratroopers.

Bud was serving with B Company, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division and parachuted into Normandy on DDay. They were widely scattered and dropped in the wrong locations.

The surviving 508th PIR paratroopers of B Company regrouped and participated in securing the vital causeways and bridgehead objectives. It was during these efforts that Bud was Killed in Action two days after DDay.

PVT John Daum is buried at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer, France - Plot F Row 23 Grave 42.

Just four days to go to until our Veterans Celebration on Saturday June 6th. It is being held at the Century Village in Grove City, Ohio. We are sharing our event with the SWFCHS's (Southwest Franklin County Historical Society) Heritage Celebration.

Our event has bluegrass music, a car show, reenactors (all military eras), food and vendors.
