ter studies and portraits of people from around the world, wildlife, natural landscapes and forest scenes,, and calligraphed art featuring the words of poets and writers from whom I have drawn inspiration for life. Artist Statement:
Pyrography, or woodburning is nearly a lost art, yet from my earliest encounters with it as a child I found it seductive. In the warm organic beauty of wood I find a deep spiritual connection with nature, an intriguing aesthetic that now adds mystery and meaning to my art. Over the years as I've explored its nuances, the subtle blends of wood and the subjects I portray, I feel I've discovered something truly beautiful. The rich flesh tones and deep earthy hues of burning combine handsomely with my intercultural portraits and wildlife art. The grains of oak, birch, maple, and fir infused with transparent color offer rich tonal underlays and evocative parallels to the ethereal textures of the atmosphere, gentle ripples in water, and the undulating stratifications of landscape and terrain. In my experimentations with woods and other complimentary media I've found intriguing steppingstones to mergers and derivatives that have ultimately led me to what to my knowledge is a unique genre in art I've called pyrographics. The Fine Art of Pyrography 101-201 (https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/311506) is a 2.5 hour shorter introductory class designed to introduce aspiring woodburners to the art of pyrography. No experience necessary. We will start where you are comfortable, work with you at your own pace, and take on whatever level of challenge you would like help to take on from there with what time we have.

The Fine Art of Pyrography 201-401 (https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/425006) is designed to be a day-long unit that can be combined into multiple days by request for those wanting a more extended learning experience, and time to complete a more challenging project with David's help. For those wanting that kind of immersion, this class may be combined with lodging in one of our Friendly City Garden Sanctuary Airbnb rooms which gives you added the option to work at your leisure as long as you want in the evenings, or through the night, in David's adjacent studio.

Introducing a new venture for me, offering classes in The Fine Art of Pyrography at my home studio through Airbnb. Limited to two persons (acquaintances, or not) to maximize individual attention and shared learning; custom-tailored to each person's skills, experience, and interests; and designed in 2-hour blocks to allow for either an introductory taste or the opportunity to sequence sessions at one's own pace and leisure for a more intensive immersion. Whether aspiring to explore a new talent, discover a new niche for your artistic energy, or take your work to another level, I will offer the best of my attention, insights, and lessons-learned from over 36 years, and the freedom to work at the edges that most inspired you to come--to enable you too to create images like these! Variation on a recent commission inspired by a work in pen and ink by Rembrandt but embellished here with more lush growth to resemble an olive tree. This pyrographic rendering on a turned quilted maple platter features a remarkable interaction with light as its translucent grain virtually shimmers in undulating patterns as if the rays of light from above glisten through the leaves.
