The Ohio County Cemetery Committee activities for 2019 included cleaning of Tunnel Hill Cemetery. Wreaths Across America has enhanced the county with 500 veterans graves decorated with wreaths at Christmas.
Ohio County Museum aka Historical Society does not charge an admission fee, it must rely on its volunteers, the community and veterans for support. All donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated. We still say it is the "BEST KEPT SECRET IN OHIO COUNTY". Kudos to Ohio County Fiscal Court for stabilization work in Thomas House Museum known to most as Ohio County Museum.
Fundraising dinner courtesy of Sorehead’s of Hartford was a new endeavor and quite successful. Welcome this new business to the community.
This year, one of the donations was a chair from Echols Opera House. Another informative donation was a log of marriages and funerals of Rev Morris G Snell. Some were listed here and not found elsewhere in public records.

A new book assembled by John Riley Dowell is available on The Moseley Family. Following that will be a book on Richard Taylor Family.
A new book Wallace, A Scots-Irish Family is available on Amazon. Written by Clay Patterson and D Sue Stulberg.

The Ohio County Veterans Museum is now beginning its 15th year, with a full house of pictures, memorabilia and information; all honoring our local veterans and service personnel. Everything in the museum was donated, either by the veteran, their families or friends. All branches of service and past wars are represented.
During the past year, donations were made for numerous veterans. Among those were Burlie Shrull, Wendell Shull, Samuel Beard, a camp phone from David Lanham, Winston Kuykendall, J M Haynes, Lafe Eskridge, Millard Hurt, Bruce Stewart, Charles Thurman Moore, Walton Fulkerson, Conrad Brown, John May, John Variot, Paul Himes, George Norris, Claude Dewey Howard, George Curtis, Iglehart Estate. Recorded veteran interviews are now available on thumb drive.
The Veterans Museum participated in honoring Veteran, Noble Midkiff, on his 100th birthday this year.
Richard Atherton’s portrait and hand carved crutch were center pieces of Pleasant Hope General Baptist Church Cemetery first fall tour of tombstones/folks of interest. This year featured 4 people including Mr Atherton. Learning about his contribution to history on a hayride is an enjoyable experience. While his memorabilia is at Ohio County Veterans Museum, he is buried in McLean County.
The Veterans Museum helped in promotion of the Veterans Wall project at Ohio County Park. This is a wonderful project of the Ohio County Honor Guard.
The Veterans Museum is very fortunate and thankful to have our regular volunteers including Les Johnson, Jackie Bartlett, Logan Shown, Helen McKeown, Nina Galloway and Betsy Gossett. It is hoped that more of our Society members and local citizens will be able to step up and volunteer so the hours of operation can increase.
