This is the information for those wishing to make a block for the Harvard quilt. Please advise if you are interested.
Block information:

These blocks must be 8.5 x 8.5 inches unfinished. They will be sewn together using a ÂŒ “seam allowances finishing at 8 x 8”. Keep this in mind if you’re making a pattern with points. I hate to have to sew off points, it better to let them float.

Please use scant ÂŒ “when piecing blocks. If appliquĂ©ing, have your design finish Ÿ” from all edges. HINT: use light pencil marks of you need a reference point.

Each block must have a least 1 white space large enough for you to legibly print your name. Remember to include your maiden name if you wish. Your names can be embroidered (by hand or machine) or written with a permanent marker. If signing on a border don’t forget to allow for the finishing seam.

Blocks can be pieced, appliqued, colored, and/or embroidered. Remember variety makes a great scrap quilt. Easy block ideas are, Rail Fence, Snowball, 4-Patch, 9-Patch, Simple star, or Pinwheel.

Colors:

Pieced blocks: Bright Reds and Blues, Navy, Gold, and White. Prints or solids.

Remembered if you chose to color or applique a block use an 8.5 x 8.5 “white background please.

Embroidered Blocks:

Please use an 8.5 x 8.5” white background.

Seam allowances are Œ’’, finishing design at Ÿ “away from the edge allows you to center your design. Use a light pencil to make reference point if you need them.

Chose any patriotic pattern you feel is appropriate.

Floss colors also need to be in brights, using any color fast brand you prefer.

Turn in Date: Thursday June 18

*Please turn in blocks clean, pressed and ready to be sewn together. *

Commemorative Block: I would love to a see a special block designed and sewn into the quilt as a record of its purpose. I hope someone with those skills can help us out.

Finishing:

Supplies needed are batting, background and binding fabric.

Committee has agreed to have the quilt top long armed. It will also need a hanging sleeve and binding attached.

We realize that a many of you cannot contribute blocks to this project so we are asking for donations to cover supplies and finishing cost. A special block will be included into this quilt top listing your names as contributors.

Please turn in block and contributions by Thursday June 18

Checks may be made out to Harvard Historical Society, designate quilt on memo line.

Checks and Blocks may be dropped off at the Harvard Museum.

They can also be sent to:

Thanks Everett Ling for stopping by the museum this morning. Also, thanks for hanging up the document for me. I couldn't get the nail to go into the wall. 😂
