The Museum of Printing The Museum of Printing in Haverhill, Massachusetts, holds the most extensive collection of printing materials and equipment in the world.

The Museum of Printing is dedicated to preserving the rich history of the graphic arts, printing and typesetting technology, and printing craftsmanship. In addition to many special collections and small exhibits, the Museum contains hundreds of antique printing, typesetting, and bindery machines, as well as a library of books and printing-related documents.

This June we celebrate the publishing genius of Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915), founder of the Roycroft artisan community in East Aurora, New York (1895–1938) – an influential center of the Arts and Crafts movement in the United States.

The Romano Library (at the Museum of Printing, Haverhill MA) has an invaluable collection of books printed by the Roycrofters. Among them are Hubbard’s famous essay A Message to Garcia (1899), the Little Journeys to the Homes of the Great series (1895–1910), and An American Bible (1911), to name a few. Each book is a work of art with its leather binding, handmade paper, beautiful typefaces and borders, natural motifs, and handcrafted illustrations. We’ll feature some of them in our next posts.

This past Saturday the Museum of Printing participated in the Haverhill Art Walk, an amazing community event that takes place twice a year in downtown Haverhill. Carolyn Muskat and her helpers delighted a steady crowd of visitors who came to our booth to print a mini poster.
