This Saturday, October 26th at 10:30, join other tribal members coming together to discuss who will be on the ballot on November 8th, how they say they will address issues important to us at LCO and Sawyer County, as well as hear from some of those seeking public positions in Wisconsin. The get-together will be held at the New Post historic stone building, 10032 W Indian Lane, about a quarter mile from the New Post Elder Center. Chili and fry bread will be served and all who attend will be eligible to win a door prize.

The first step in the installation of a sculpture by Sara Balbin commemorating the flooding of Post (1921-1923) was completed on September 27, 2024. It is now resting next to the Stone Building in New Post, renovated at the request of descendants of former residents of Post. Pipestone will be brought from the quarry near Rice Lake to serve as a base for the sculpture to complete the installation.

The sculpture was commissioned by members of the LCO Elder Council and Elder Association, thanks to a grant provided by LCO's Financial Services. Some elders remember the stories of their elders who described the horrific loss of a self-sustaining and gratifying way of life for the Anishinaabeg of Post caused by the flooding of the village by Northern States Power over 100 years ago.

Pictured are Sara Balbin, her husband Gary Crandall and her apprentice Mike Morrow.

RESERVE VOTER RALLY TO BE HELD SATURDAY @ 10:30 am (Oct 19)
Reserve Elder Center Building will be the site of an LCO Voter Rally on Saturday morning, 10:30 – 1:30pm, October 19th.
Lac Courte Oreilles was first settled by our Ottawa cousins in 1650 and finally by the Ojibwe in 1744 at Odawasaga’eganing, building a mighty nation and surviving many attempts by Americans to remove us and incapacitating our way of life.
To prevent these things from ever happening again, we must be a tribe that mobilizes our power in numbers. We must vote!
Join us on Saturday at Reserve Village. We will have speakers and an open microphone for anyone who wishes to share their thoughts.
There will be Door Prizes – gas coupons, grocery store coupons and some birch bark items. Tickets will be handed out free to the first 127 audience members who walk in the door.
Food! Chili and fry bread.
Join us at Reserve Village on Saturday afternoon. Speakers, Candidates, valuable door prizes, and great food!
