The Tennessee Plowboy from Chester County, Eddy Arnold.

On November 1, 1947, Eddy Arnold began an unequalled run of domination on the Billboard country singles charts. On that date, the twenty-nine-year-old with the smooth baritone gained a #1 hit with “I’ll Hold You in My Heart (Till I Can Hold You in My Arms).”

Incredibly, Arnold didn’t relinquish the top spot on the country charts until more than a year later. No country artist has ever duplicated that feat.

After “I’ll Hold You in My Heart,” the broad-shouldered singer known as the “Tennessee Plowboy” continued his unbroken string of chart-toppers with the romantic songs “Anytime,” “Bouquet of Roses,” “Texarkana Baby,” and “Just a Little Lovin’ (Will Go a Long, Long Way).”

Eddy Arnold was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1966 and passed away in 2008 at age eighty-nine. All told, he placed 146 hits on the “Billboard” country charts.

We extend sympathy to the family of Bobby Barnes. He was the Historian of Chester County and was fundamental in establishing the historical room at the Library which eventually turned into the Chester County Museum. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.
