A second victim seemingly wounded the unknown assailant with his own knife, but authorities never caught up with the man.

Back in 1966, a recent grad of Hermantown was brutally murdered while working a night shift at a gas station at Sixth Avenue East in Duluth. His murderer was never found. Poor John Wold!

We have a history of great youth sports in Hermantown. The secret, though, is youth is how you define it, and sports are whatever your passion is. When your hometown supports those endeavors, you have a great hometown.

Thank you to all who attended our Hermantown Historical Society event at UMD yesterday! It was fun to see people engaged with the history of our area by diving into the past. We hope it enriched your understanding of an important historical aspect of H-Town history, our Jackson Homes.

Missed this event? No worries! Our regular history hours will begin again this summer, or you can arrange a private tour anytime!

No.6 Lincoln School - 1895-1938 - was located at Adolph, on the
west side of Midway Road, built in 1895 and was a one-room school until it was replaced. In 1912 it was replaced on the east side of Midway Road with a two-room school - no teacherage. This school burnt in the "Fire of 1918". It was rebuilt in 1919 as a two-room school with a teacherage.

No.5 Jackson School - 1895-1938 - Was located on the Swan Lake Road (now known as Miller Trunk) and Lavaque Road. In 1915 they sold the building for S27.00 to the Jackson Farmers Club. A new two-room school replaced it with a teacherage. The Club house, located at the back of the school grounds burnt, but the new Jackson School did not burn in the "Fire of 1918". After consolidation into Hermantown School, the Jackson Farmers Club took over the school.
