Inktober is next month. Decluttering my laptop and randomly found this OLD video for Day 1 of Inktober 2021. Present me, sees past me, and is telling my future self to get ready. Have you heard of Inktober? Do you want to try it, too? Have you ever drawn with your non-dominant hand? Are you right handed or left handed?

I feel grateful and humbled to have been featured on NBC Los Angeles, highlighting my art studio, The Artist Mill! This live segment was a dream come true, and I'm thankful for the chance to inspire others with my art. A big thank you to the lovely an incredible Amber Pfister for believing in my work and inviting me to be a part of her show. I’m grateful for her kindness and enthusiasm in sharing my story with her viewers. This experience has been a powerful reminder of the impact we can have when we support and uplift each other.

Amber Pfister is in Hermosa Beach at The Artist Mill with the owner and artist Millie Velesco, where her shop inspires creativity and brings artists in the community together.

PRESS RELEASE

Not Your Regular Chicken Adobo - A Modern Exploration of Filipino Identity In celebration of Garel Fine Art's first anniversary, the gallery is proud to present an exciting new exhibit titled Not Your Regular Chicken Adobo—a modern exploration of Filipino identity, curated by Joanna Garel. This intimate and thought-provoking show brings together a collective of diverse voices, including Leo P. Carney, Aaron Dadacay, Joanna Garel, Sebastian Genato, Levi Jackson, Amelie Laurice, Tala Mateo, Maryrose C. Mendoza, Millie Velasco.

For Garel, this exhibit is a deeply personal journey, one that blends nostalgia with the contemporary experiences of Filipino culture. It shines a light on the individual stories of artists from a variety of backgrounds, all united in their shared exploration of Filipino heritage and identity. The exhibition reflects on the complexity of these experiences, showcasing both the collective yearning for cultural connection and the deeply personal narratives of each artist.

Through vibrant works of art that span various mediums, Not Your Regular Chicken Adobo challenges traditional views of Filipino identity while honoring its rich cultural roots. Each piece offers a unique lens on what it means to be Filipino in today's world, inviting viewers to reflect on the intersections of personal history, culture, and identity.

This exhibit promises to be a memorable and enriching experience, one that celebrates Filipino culture in all its complexity, diversity, and modern-day relevance.
