Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads out there!

Today we celebrate the man who helped to shape Milton Hershey into the successful entrepreneur he became. We always say Milton got the best of both of his parents—the practical hardworking characteristics of his mother, Veronica “Fanny” Snavely, and his aspirations and ability to dream big from his father, Henry Hershey.

Henry Hershey was born January 4, 1829 at the Homestead. He loved learning and reading books. He was always chasing the newest opportunities – moving himself and his family almost constantly. By the end of his life he came back to the Homestead to live with Milton and Kitty. It was this time that he said was the happiest of his life. He died at the Homestead on February 18, 1904.
