Thanks to everyone who turned out for the workday last Saturday… and special thanks to Bruce Alleman who was awarded the Volunteer of the Year plaque. Bruce wasn’t able to receive it on time, so Fleet Chair Randy Wilcox surprised him at the workday..
Randy pointed out “Bruce started his volunteering at the museum in September of 2021 helping out working on cars. Since September of 2021 Bruce has volunteered over 1,597 hours as of the end May…. with over 275 of those hours at the Annex working on the fleet of buses as well as other projects. He is a fearless mechanic.. can fix anything we ask him to, and he’s not afraid of the tedious jobs either. “
During the workday, volunteers updated our library of maintenance and parts manuals.. currently we have 877 different volumes. This accumulated knowledge is available to all our colleagues and friends who are preserving bus history.
AND… for the first time in a number of years, our 1977 GM RTS is now up and running. It had been suffering the bussy version of arthritis… a stuck transmission cable. Now repaired after months of effort, by the intrepid John Davis… it is driveable. A major portion of our fleet is now roadworthy.. a great testament to the skill and dedication of our volunteers.
