When the tents go up we know something big is about to happen. This time there are two big events taking place just a week apart.

This Saturday join us at the Perquimans County Restoration Association Newbold-White House for Betsy Rides Again! An America 250 NC event involving four NENC counties, reenactors, vendors, tours of the Newbold White House, and glimpses into the Periauger and Plank House.

The following Saturday. June 6th, is the annual Garden Party, with fine refreshments, period music, silent auctions, and opportunities to see every element of the site up close. Whether you are a newcomer to the area or a life-long resident come join us as we celebrate the 300th anniversary of Abraham and Judith Sanders purchase of "The Vineyard", the 600 plus acre plantation originally settled by Joseph Scott around 1650. Tickets are $50, and can be purchased at www.perquimansrestoration.org.

What's an event without food? Not much fun!
Owl Feed Ya will be on hand for the Betsy Rides Again! Reenactment event at the Newbold White House on Saturday, May 30, 11:00 am until 2:30 pm.
This might not be 18th century cooking, but it sure is tasty, and the proprietors of this public house on wheels have deep Perquimans County roots going right on back to Colonial times.
Come join us to relive some local history and enjoy some good eating while you're doing it!

One of the historic crafts and trades that will be demonstrated at the Betsy Rides Again! Reenactment event is that of a chandler. Shenandoah Lassiter is a chandler, an expert in making candles, a very necessary article in the 18th century. He will be on site displaying and explaining various methods of making candles, from dipping to molding. Shenandoah has been a faithful participant in the PCRA Fourth Grade Living History Days since the first was held ten years ago, and will be on hand Saturday, May 30 as a part of this historic Betsy Dowdy reenactment day.

Come join us between 11:00 am and 2:30 pm to take in this and many other interesting historic activities.

The Annual PCRA Garden Party is much more than a party with delicious food, beautiful flowers, lovely music, and hats galore. All of that is a means to an end, and that end is supporting the work of the Perquimans County Restoration Association in the preservation of the ca. 1730 Newbold White House and the early 19th century Newby Cottage, the maintenance of the Periauger, the reconstruction and restoration of the Pasquotank Plank House, and the educational programs which the volunteer board of PCRA offers to our community throughout the year.

The Garden Party raises funds for all of these necessary expenses through several avenues.

First of all the tickets for the party itself. We couldn't do it without those of you who faithfully support this and other events throughout the year, and we welcome newcomers to the site, the association, and the event with open arms and a warm Southern greeting!

Second is the silent auction and raffle held during the Garden Party. A variety of unique items donated by our members and friends will be available for you to browse and bid on, including the ever popular wine cart, which this year will be held in a half-barrell rather than a wheel barrow. Come prepared to bid early and often, and remember it all goes to a very good cause!

Third, and perhaps most important of all, is our sponsors. Local business owners and individuals who generously give in advance to support the event and the Association. These donations come in many forms, including cash gifts, as well as goods and services to make the event possible. A huge thank you to all who are sponsoring this and other PCRA events! Our sponsors will be listed and announced at the Garden Party, and recognized here on our social media following the event.

So please remember to mail, email, hand deliver, or phone in your RSVP reservation for June 6, or go online to www.perquimansrestroration.org to make your reservation and payment today!

PCRA is privileged to have The Itinerant Band on hand to provide live music for the 2026 Garden Party on June 6!
Based in Virginia Beach, VA, The Itinerant Band plays a mixture of Folk, Celtic, and authentic 18th Century Music while beautifully clothed in period appropriate dress. You don't want to miss this very special feature of Garden Party 2026, so go to www.perquimansrestoration.org to register now.

Hope to see you Saturday, June 6, 2-5 pm, in your festive garden party attire!

The Periauger is an important part of PCRA's education and outreach programs, and a vital element in telling the story of Abraham and Judith Sanders and their life at the Newbold White House between 1726 and 1751. This reproduction of an 18th century two-masted work boat is based on one listed in the 1751 inventory of Abraham's estate, taken shortly after his death. Here it is shown during one of our Fourth Grade Living History Days, filled with eager students, learning about travel in Colonial North Carolina.

This is just one of the historic exhibits that will be on display to take you back in time during the Betsy Dowdy Rides Again! reenactment event on Saturday, May 30 at the Newbold White House. Join us between 11:00 am and 2:30 pm to take in reenactors, exhibits, vendors, tours of North Carolina's oldest brick house, and much more.

While this is not a depiction of a past Garden Party, it does show a group enjoying a grand time at a Colonial Dinner, served by costumed wait staff (volunteers) in courses in the manner genteel supper could have been served in Colonial times inside the Newbold White House. It is a time where old met new, present celebrations in support of preserving the past.

Come out June 6 to make merry on the Newbold White House Lawn while raising funds to protect and maintain our nearly three hundred year old jewel.

Tickets may now be reserved at www.perquimansrestoration.org.
