Hewitt Public School Museum

Hewitt Public School Museum The Historic Hewitt Public school is the home of the Hewitt Museum. In 1953 the Hewitt School district consolidated with near by Bertha.

The Hewitt Museum was created to preserve & promote the history of the City of Hewitt, MN along with the Stowe Prairie Township. From 1911 to 1952 the Hewitt School served Hewitt, MN as their community's only educational institution. From 1953-1964 the school housed first to sixth grades. From 1964-1980 fifth & sixth grades were held at the school. In 1981, The Hewitt Historical Society adopted th

e school as a local history Museum. The Hewitt School was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 2006. The city of Hewitt, along with the Hewitt Historical Society were awarded a Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant on January 21st, 2010 in the amount of $156,369. This page will track the restoration process of the school's roof as the project unfolds starting in April and ending by September 2010.
