May is Preservation Month — a time to celebrate the places, stories, traditions, and people that shape who we are as a community. In Catawba County, preservation is more than saving old buildings. It is protecting our identity, honoring the generations who came before us, and ensuring that future generations understand the rich heritage that built this region.

For nearly 90 years, the Historical Association of Catawba County has served as a steward of our community’s cultural footprint. Through the preservation of historic sites like Murray’s Mill, Bunker Hill Covered Bridge, the Harper House, and the Catawba County Museum of History, HACC protects the stories that connect us to our past while creating meaningful experiences for today’s residents and visitors.

Preservation is not passive. It requires maintenance, research, education, programming, restoration, advocacy, and community engagement. It means preserving artifacts, sharing oral histories, teaching school children, hosting events, welcoming visitors, and creating spaces where history comes alive.

Memberships are the foundation that makes this work possible.

Every membership directly supports preservation efforts across Catawba County. Memberships help keep museum doors open, support educational programming, preserve historic structures, care for collections, and ensure that local history remains accessible to the public. They allow HACC to continue serving as a cultural anchor for our community while expanding programming, tourism, and outreach opportunities.

When someone becomes a member of HACC, they are doing more than joining an organization — they are investing in the preservation of our shared story.

As we celebrate Preservation Month, we invite our community to stand with us in honoring the past while funding the future. Together, we can ensure that the history of Catawba County continues to inspire generations to come.

Let's party!!

Step back in time and celebrate America’s 250th in style 🇺🇸✨ Join us at the Liberty Ball hosted by the Catawba County Historical Association for an evening full of history, charm, and a whole lot of patriotic spirit!

Now is your official excuse to finally plan that outfit… because nothing says “I’m ready to party” like looking like you *might* have helped sign the Declaration of Independence. Just don’t be surprised if you leave feeling extra patriotic—and slightly convinced you could’ve been there in 1776. 😉

Fair warning though… you might come for “just one piece” and leave wondering where you’re going to put your 5th jug 😂 Time to start clearing some shelf space now—future you (and your new pottery collection) will thank you!
