Since 2017, the High Point Historical Society has sponsored a Summer Internship at the Museum, working specifically with materials in our collection. Our 2026 intern, Emma Albrecht, already had an archives background from her graduate studies in the Library and Information Sciences program at UNC Greensboro, so she eagerly accepted the task of wading through some of our larger, unprocessed archival collections and discovered some interesting items we didn’t know we had!

In this week's History Hindsights blog post, Emma shares some thoughts on her internship and shares some of the objects she processed.

High Point Historical Society Presents: 25 Years of High Point Market Authority
The High Point Historical Society will host Judy Mendenhall and Tammy Covington. The High Point Market Authority was established in 2001 to be the official organizing body for the semiannual furniture market held in High Point each year. Founding President Judy Mendenhall and current President Tammy Covington will share their stories and insights about how the Authority has grown and evolved over the past 25 years as well as its impact on the largest home furnishings trade show in the world.

High Point Historical Society Presents: High Point Public Library at 100 Years
The High Point Historical Society will host Julie Raynor, High Point Public Library 100th Anniversary Planning Committee Coordinator, to discuss the High Point Public Library’s service to the greater High Point community for 100 years. She will explore the library's commitment to determining the needs of the community and working to meet those needs within the library's walls and in the neighborhoods around the city. The presentation will be followed by Q&A.

High Point Historical Society Presents: America's Hometown Movie Theaters
The High Point Historical Society will host Benita VanWinkle to discuss the Museum’s newest exhibition “Please Remain Standing,” which features highlights from her new book. The book and exhibition showcase a 40+ year photographic journey capturing historic American movie theaters and drive-ins, paying tribute to their architectural variety and endurance.

54th Annual Holiday Open House
This annual event has become a tradition with local families. Come for a day of special reenactments, music, demonstrations, refreshments, a visit from Santa, and hands-on activities like candle dipping! Fun for all ages. FREE.

Education in the Historical Park
Getting an education is more than “book learning” in school. How to build, craft, and care for things to teach others is a form of education too. Come see our costumed interpreters demonstrate some of the educational activities of the 18th and 19th centuries.
The Forgotten Fight for Freedom
In partnership with High Point Public Library Andrew Lawler, notable journalist and author, will join us at the Museum. Based on a new book, 'A Perfect Frenzy,' this talk will forever change your view of the conflict that birthed the nation. In 1777 and 1776, two groups of Americans squared off against one another, both claiming to fight for liberty. Come learn about the Scottish earl and his Black allies who threatened to take the South out of the American Revolution.
Let’s Craft! Battledores in Little Red Schoolhouse
Battledores were one of the earliest forms of printed material used to teach young children their letters in early America. Join us and make your own to take with you to school! Sensory Friendly: dim lights, calm room, limited people.

Let’s Craft! Crayon Bookmarks in Little Red Schoolhouse
School just started and we’ll be reading a lot of books this year. Come to Little Red Schoolhouse and make a crayon bookmark to put between the pages of your books! Our Sensory Friendly environment (dim lights, calm room, limited people) will be from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Free. Drop in. All ages welcome.
