100 YEARS AGO IN HIGHSPIRE According to this article from the Saturday, May 29, 1926 edition of The Patriot News, the Steelton American Legion Post assisted in the Highspire Memorial Day service. The article does not mention the site of the Highspire service. It could have been at the Highspire Cemetery or the World War One monument on Market and Roop Streets.

100 YEARS AGO IN HIGHSPIRE Highspire High School fielded a good team in 1926, but they were soundly beaten by Annville on May 27. This article appeared in the May 28 edition of The Daily News of Lebanon.

100 YEARS AGO IN HIGHSPIRE According to this report from the May 22, 1926 edition of the Harrisburg Telegraph, the Highspire Athletic Club was one of the charter members of the Lower Dauphin Twilight League.

100 YEARS AGO IN HIGHSPIRE The Highspire Athletic Club regularly fielded quality adult baseball teams in the early 20th century. Highspire High School also fielded teams when enough high school age boys were available. The addition of the 12th year to the high school curriculum in school year 1925-1926 increased the pool of boys available for all sports. This report from the May 20, 1926 edition of The Patriot News indicates Highspire fielded a credible high school baseball team in 1926.

100 YEARS AGO IN HIGHSPIRE Highspire voters gave enthusiastic support to the students and school board in the 1926 primary ballot by approving the two loans for expansion of the Penn Street school building and construction of a new elementary school on Eshleman Street. Both proposals passed by over 75% majority. It was a major event in the history of the Highspire Schools. This article appeared in the May 19, 1926 edition of The Evening News.

100 YEARS AGO IN HIGHSPIRE A Highspire man, Kenneth Bothwell, was elected president of the young people's division of the Dauphin County Sunday School Association. This article appeared in the May 15, 1926 edition of The Patriot News.

100 YEARS AGO IN HIGHSPIRE In May 2026 a proposal to borrow $35,000 for two school expansion projects was on the ballot for Highspire voters. A $10,000 loan was for expansion of the Penn St. school building to create a gymnasium/auditorium and add a new classroom on the east side of the building. A $25,000 loan was to build a new elementary school on the East end of the borough on Eshleman St. These two proposals were on the May 18 primary ballot. As the article illustrates, the Highspire School students were lobbying their elders to vote for the projects. The high school students were keen to get a basketball court where they could play at the school and urged a yes vote in their Orange & Black high school periodical.
