A landscape can be hiding in a stone.
Biggs Jasper is known for its striking natural patterns—often resembling distant hills, rivers, skies, or abstract landscapes. In the hands of lapidary artist Fred Wilda, each cut becomes an opportunity to frame the scene nature created within the stone.
For From Stone to Story, visitors can compare rough material with a finished cabochon and see how much thought, skill, and imagination goes into selecting the best view. The finished piece is not simply shaped; it is carefully oriented to reveal the stone’s most compelling colors and patterns.
Fred’s work celebrates the creative partnership between artist and material. Every cabochon is unique, shaped by the stone itself and by the cutter’s eye for the image waiting inside.
