Today, we commemorate Memorial Day. Originally known as Decoration Day, it was established by John A. Logan, Commander in Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, to remember the soldiers who died during the Civil War.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡² Highland County has a long history of honoring its fallen, all the way back to the earliest days of the holiday, a tradition we proudly continue to this day.

The first article recalls the 1878 Decoration Day services in Hillsboro. The second clipping is a picture from the 1976 Bicentennial celebration efforts of honoring the earliest veterans of the county, our Revolutionary War soldiers.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Hillsboro Uptown Business Association ( HUBA) Red, White & Wine event today!

It made for a great first day of our season! If you didn't get the chance to stop in today, no worries! We'll be open most Fridays and Saturdays 1-4 pm.

Here are a few pictures of our red, white, and blue decorations on the first floor. There is lots more to see, especially on the second floor, so be sure to visit this summer and fall.

We are sad to share the loss of our dear friend Steve Faris.

He was a wealth of information, particularly in the history of magic 🎩 πŸͺ„, a talented performer, former board member and was inducted into our Highland County Hall of Fame in 2024.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

View Stephen Craig Faris's obituary, send flowers, find service dates, and sign the guestbook.

πŸ‘€ Sneak Peek Alert! πŸ‘€

One of the ways we are celebrating America's 250th birthday is by honoring veterans living in Highland County.

Our talented volunteers have created several wonderful displays filled with photos and biographies of veterans who were nominated by friends and family.

We invite you to stop in, take a few moments to look at the displays, and give thanks for their service πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²

250 years is certainly something worth celebrating and we've decorated the Highland House with all the red, white, and blue we could find! We can't wait for everyone to see it in person and help us make this year one for the history books πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²
