Don't forget to come visit Well Sweep gallery on Thursday, July 18th to hear the stories and have your book signed. Tammi Truax has written a fascinating novel in verse about the first elephant to be brought to America. Imagine an elephant on board a sailing ship many years ago rolling with seas below deck. A little black slave boy was purchased to take care of the elephant. Each verse in the novel represents a different character. This is a very special opportunity to meet the author who is also the Poet Laureate of Portsmouth.

Come listen to Tammi from 1 to 4 in the afternoon

COMINo SOON!
Spend a fascinating afternoon with Tammi Truax, the author of For to See the Elephant, a novel in verse. It's about the first elephant to arrive in America by way of a long trip on a ship in rough seas. Along with the elephant came a little black slave boy who became the elephant's caretaker.
Each verse is the voice of one of the characters.
Come listen to Tammi's account of how she researched history and wove it into her charming tale.

Tammi will be in the gallery signing her book on July 18th, from 1 to 4 pm.
Refreshments served

Like the jonquils and bleeding heart, I am emerging from our icy winter to welcome you to the 2019 season at Well Sweep Gallery. Because of health issues and losing my husband, Bob, last summer, we have slowed down in the gallery for several years. This summer I plan to be open most weekends after July 4th. We also have some exciting events planned for July, August and September.

In July we will be featuring author Tammi Truax . Her new book, For to See the Elephant is a novel written in verse, not surprising for the Poet Laureate of Portsmouth. It’s about the very first elephant that was brought to America in the 1700’s. The elephant’s caretaker is a little black slave boy from Africa. They have much in common. You won’t want to miss hearing her stories as she also signs books.

Also in July Christopher Krone, bookmaker, will present his amazing variety of handmade books along with a workshop for those who wish to learn.

Keep watching! More to come!
