Today's art" Spring Chicken." A few months ago, I made a piece called "Watch Dog" - a dog covered in old watches. I started to try to think of another play on words and came up with "Spring Chicken." I had a damaged metal body of a duck or chicken - no head, tail, wings, beak, comb, or feet. I attached hundreds of old springs and created wings, tail, etc. from old pieces of metal. I had the feet from some earlier project.

I'm heading out to Fearrington tomorrow (Thur.) to set up my booth for the Folk Art Show! Here's the smallish (38") totem pole that will be available there. I made it from small aluminum coffee pots from a child’s play kitchen from the 1950s. A steel rod runs through 5 faces. Their heads are adorned with bottle caps, pieces from children’s games, curtain rings, taps from dance shoes, binder clips, metal teacups, and miscellaneous oddments. Come see me Saturday and Sunday 9:30-5:00!

Here's today's art: KODAK MOMENT CREW
These fun guys are out cruising to find interesting locations to photograph. They’re getting a lot of attention from other drivers because of their unique car! I made their convertible from an antique weaving shuttle and some orange wheels. The guys are all old metal Kodak film canisters, wooden spheres, and bottle caps. I made each one a little camera so they can snap their photos.
SEE THIS AT THE OPEN STUDIO TOUR --- NOV. 1,2,8, AND 9

Here's today's art: "It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood." I had the best time creating each of these little houses to make a funky neighborhood! I am imagining that a lot of caring, kind people live here. I used building blocks, pieces of an erector set, plastic and wood fencing, popsicle sticks, corrugated paper, pieces of an old cardboard toy barn, thin sheet metal, scraps of wood, Lincoln log pieces, etc. I added a lot of little accessories like a Monopoly dog, window boxes, small house numbers, a flag, a lampost, stained glass windows, and plants. They are all grouped in an old, peely-paint drawer - it can stand alone or be hung on the wall. It's about 22" square.

Here's today's art: "Bird on a House." This bird was sad to find out she was way too big for this colorful birdhouse. But she perched there for a long time admiring the silver painted corrugated cardboard roof, the lovely blue doors and black-and-white checkered base. I had this bird/pear-shaped black wire thing and gave it wooden wings, bead eyes, wire feet, and a red plastic cap beak. I made the birdhouse from a wooden box - just added the little doors and windows and a corrugated paper roof - and painted it in fun colors.

Here's today's art: "Rufus from Pennsylvania." Rufus was born in Philadelphia, but he moved with his human to Pittsburgh recently. His shoehorn ears are from an old shoe store in Philadelphia and his rabies tag is from Pittsburgh - "Steel City!" I used an old wooden bowl for his head, a heart shaped tin for his snout, and miscellaneous metal hardware for his nose and eyes. He hangs on the wall and is abour 11" high and 13" wide.
