Behind every flourishing ecosystem, there is a generation of minds dedicated to understanding it.

This summer, Honey Horn is vibrant with new energy as we welcome our 2026 Education Interns—five brilliant young students who possess the curiosity of researchers and the souls of conservationists.

Swipe through to meet the team helping us preserve The Land and The Life of this season:
🐙 Sabrina Chavez () – A future aquarist specializing in marine biology. If you want to talk about the complex, brilliant behavior of cephalopods or need help ID’ing local fauna on our trails, Sabrina is your go-to guide!

💧 Zoe Diaz () – Studying hydrogeology (the hidden, ancient movements of water beneath our feet). When she isn't sharing the secrets of the Lowcountry’s watersheds, she’s an artist at heart who loves creative writing.

🐢 Kate Leininger () – A future marine conservationist and rehabilitation specialist. Kate brings the eye of a photographer and the heart of an adventurer to our blue planet’s most urgent coastal challenges.

🐬 Yasmin Mozone () – Diving deep into marine biology and real-world ocean life ecosystems. Yasmin’s passion for animal care ensures our local marine friends have a dedicated advocate on the docks this summer.

🧪 Maddie Spilich () – Merging the precision of biochemistry with the necessity of environmental science. Maddie is spending her summer sharing the magic of her coastal home with everyone who visits our Discovery Lab.

From the maritime forests to the depths of our salt marshes, these five women are the hands-on heart of our education programs this .

Say hello if you spot them on our 70 acres! 👇

It's and here in the Lowcountry, we are incredibly lucky to share our beaches with magnificent nesting sea turtles! Protecting these ancient mariners and their habitat is at the heart of our mission on Hilton Head Island.

You can make a direct impact on their survival by participating in our Adopt-A-Nest program! When you adopt a next, you support the museum's educational efforts to promote environmental awareness and conservation. It also makes a wonderful, meaningful gift for the nature lovers in your life.

Can't adopt right now? You can still protect them this summer with three simple steps:
💡 Lights Out: Turn off beachfront lights after 10 PM so nesting mothers and hatchlings don't get disoriented.
🏖️ Clear the Beach: Take chairs, umbrellas, and trash with you at the end of the day.
🕳️ Fill in Holes: Flatten sandcastles and fill in holes so turtles don't get trapped.

Let’s work together to keep HHI a safe haven for them! ❤️
