The County Engineers Association of Ohio (CEAO) announced that grant funding has been received for three new roundabouts projects in Lucas County in 2031. They are Dorr Street and Crissey Road (western leg) in Springfield and Spencer townships; and Old State Line and Crissey roads in Springfield
and Spencer townships, and Shaffer and Wilkins roads in Swanton, Spencer and Harding townships,
The awards came as part of CEAO’s latest round of funding from the federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), whose goal is to fund projects that significantly reduce traffic deaths
and serious injuries on public roadways. The three roundabout projects will receive $2.1 million.
The grant does have a matching requirement with an 80/20 ratio; 80 percent of the total cost
comes from federal funds and 20 percent from a local match. Total project costs are estimated at $927,419, Dorr and Crissey; $871,774, Old State Line and Crissey, and $834,677, and Shaffer and Wilkins.
Lucas County currently has 35 roundabouts in the unincorporated areas of the county, 26 of which are maintained by the county engineer's There are a dozen more planned for county-maintained intersections through 2031.
