Wistariahurst Museum Wistariahurst is an educational and cultural center owned and operated by the City of Holyoke and supported by The Wistariahurst Foundation.

Wistariahurst Museum is dedicated to preserving Holyoke’s history and inspiring an appreciation of history and culture through educational programs, guided tours, exhibits and special events. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Wistariahurst is the former home of William Skinner, a prominent silk manufacturer and was built in 1874. Today, Wistariahurst offers a wide variety of public programs and events including: workshops, concerts, lectures and demonstrations and serves the community through educational programs, community partnerships, history projects, and outreach activities. Don't miss "Victorian Sentiments" on Tuesday, October 27th at 5:30pm! Join Joanne and Dennis Picard for a presentation on Victorian mourning jewelry and gravestone symbolism.

Joanne and Dennis Picard will share images and stories about the changes in our area with the coming of garden cemeteries and the formal ritualization of mourning. This presentation correlates with the "Memento Mori" exhibit on view in the museum's gallery. Admission is donation-based, with a sliding scale of $1 - $10.

Wistariahurst Museum is excited to welcome musician and storyteller Kemp Harris to the museum for a performance on Saturday, November 21st, 2026, starting at 6:00pm. Harris' concert, being held in the historic music room, will take visitors on a journey. His program will focus on family-friendly storytelling. Kemp’s repertoire includes African folk tales, original stories, and familiar stories in literature.

Tickets to this concert are available at a sliding scale price from $5-$20. Tickets are available online and can be purchased through Wistariahurst’s Eventbrite page. They can also be purchased at the door.

Get ready for another amazing Dia de Los Mu***os celebration with Attack Bear Press and Wistariahurst Museum with a special calaveras (skull) painting event. This Sunday, October 25th, from 1:00-3:00pm we invite you to paint your clay calaveras to add to the annual ofrenda hosted at the museum again this year. Thanks to Attack Bear Press, all painting materials and calaveras will be provided at the event.

Wistariahurst Museum is preparing for another amazing Dia de Los Mu***os celebration with Attack Bear Press with a special calaveras painting activity during the museum’s Sensory Friendly Trick or Treat event. Guests are welcome to relax and paint outside or inside Wistariahurst’s Carriage House (weather dependent) on October 25th, 1:00pm-3:00pm.
