Join Andre Strongbearheart Gaines Jr., Founder of No Loose Braids, Sito Zapaktli, José Lugo, Tracey-Mae Chambers, and other indigenous presenters as they share indigenous history and culture through music, art, and informative talks. Wistariahurst Museum will be welcoming October with a haunting exhibit all about death and dying in the Victorian era. Visitors will see historic items relating to mourning, while learning what mourning customs were common in the late 1800s. Wistariahurst opens Memento Mori just in time for spooky season, on October 1st, 4:30-6:30 pm.

Last weekend Wistariahurst Museum opened a new permanent exhibit: the Skinner Servants' Room! Our opening event featured learning and exploration as guests enjoyed the new exhibit, toured both floors of the museum, enjoyed food from Thai Food Place, and even rode in a Model T car. This exhibit is on view during our open hours this month Mondays from 10:00 am-2:00 pm and Tuesdays from 4:30-6:30 pm.

Get your pages in and visit Wistariahurst Museum for an engaging discussion about the 2026 Massachusetts Great Reads title Nothing More of This Land: Community, Power, and the Search for Indigenous Identity by Joseph Lee.

The first book club meeting is happening September 8th from 5:30-6:30pm, discussing chapters 1-7.

Registered participants will receive a free copy of the book (while supplies last) and be invited to a virtual Q&A with the author! The Holyoke Public Library will have the author talk on the big screen in their conference room.

The next artist session at Wistariahurst is tomorrow, Sunday, August 30th, from 11:00am-12:00pm! Visit the museum and meet with other artists. Receive feedback on your current projects, make connections, and talk about all things art in Western MA and beyond. These sessions are led by artist Linda Devine, who engages the group and helps guide artists in collaborative conversations.

Museum Director, Megan Seiler is showing you how a Singer sewing machine from 1910 operates. Visit the museum for the exhibit’s opening event from 12:00-2:00PM tomorrow, August 29, to see a sewing demonstration in person!
