The Homeland Heritage Park offers a glimpse into the past as well as a unique setting for group outings. This five-acre site is Polk County's only existing historical park. The park has many historical sites and buildings in period furnishings such as: Homeland School (1878); Old Homeland Methodist Church (1887); Former Methodist parsonage and church annex; The Raulerson House (1880); The English family's log cabin and barn (1888).

Numerous Polk County parks, trails, campgrounds and community center computer labs will reopen on Friday, May 1.

The Board of County Commissioners has announced their plan to gradually open venues where social distancing and professional sanitation practices can be maintained.
“The Board is pleased to once again provide recreational opportunities for our residents and guests who are anxious to use our great facilities,” said Board Chairman Bill Braswell. “We highly encourage residents to follow the president and governor’s guidelines for social distancing and show respect for your neighbors by keeping our venues clean while you enjoy Polk’s beautiful assets.”

Not all park amenities will be available for public use. Below is a brief list of open facilities and parks. For a full list, please visit polknature.com/covid-19-updates

Effective at sunset today, Saturday March 21, all county parks and natural resource facilities will be closed until further notice. This includes parks with playgrounds and recreational leagues, environmental lands and trails such as Fort Frasier, campgrounds, dog parks, the shooting range, History Center, Circle B Bar Reserve, Bone Valley ATV Park, Homeland Heritage Park and our resource centers.

Polk County Government is doing everything it can to protect the health and safety of our residents, employees and guests from the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This is an uncertain time in our country and we are all in this together. The entire nation is being asked to take some extreme measures for a period of time to slow the growth of the coronavirus. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this critical time in our country.

Legend has it, Sasquatch has been lurking in the woods at Polk County Parks & Recreation’s Bone Valley ATV Park. This mysterious creature has set up traps full of color to distract all humans from finding him (or her)! It is up to us to find Sasquatch and unmask the traps on the beautiful trails of Bone Valley ATV Park.

Participants will enjoy a fun and adventurous run that features 3.1 miles of uneven terrain and blasts of color along the way. This event will be timed by FITniche and will end with an awards ceremony for various age groups.

In preparation for Hurricane Dorian, All Polk County Parks will close at dusk on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019 and remain closed until further notice. We hope everyone remains safe and preps accordingly.

All Campgrounds will close at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019 and will remain closed until further notice. If you are visiting one of our campgrounds, please make arrangements to be off property before Sunday at 10 a.m.

For any questions, please call the Polk County Parks & Recreation's Administration office at (863) 534-6911. Normal operating hours are Mon. - Fri., 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
