We are thrilled to announce a new exhibition at Polu Gallery!

Ok Liao’s new exhibition will be held for two weeks starting Saturday, October 4th!

This is his second solo exhibition in Hawaii, following last year’s event.

The title of this exhibition is
“Scars to Stars.”

A recurring motif in his art is the image of a local Hawaiian surf girl bearing scars from surfing.

These scars transform into something akin to stars, embedding a poetic and positive message overflowing with the Aloha spirit throughout his artworks.

The opening of his annual solo exhibition will take place on Saturday, October 4th, from 5 PM to 8 PM.
This is a free, open-to-the-public event.
The artist himself will be in attendance.
Many new original works, painted in acrylic on large canvases, will be unveiled.
These pieces are strikingly contemporary and beautiful.
Of course, prints of the new works will also be available!

We warmly invite you to join us!

“Elegance, Washed Ashore” is a gorgeous 36x36” framed embellished original block print from ‘s current exhibition “Salty Hues”.

Its simplistic beauty comes from the artist’s emphasis on carving, rather than stitching, while still giving it her signature texture. The overlapping paper, representing the ocean moving back and forth, is a unique nod to the sand and the foam of the water.

The gold color gives it warmth and, as the title emplies, elegance.

Check it out in person at our Haleiwa location. Also available for purchase on our website www.polugallery.com

These are just some of the comments from people that have checked out ‘s new collection “Salty Hues”.

“Amongst the Stones at Last Light” is one of her new pieces that has drawn a lot of interest.
It’s no wonder it’s a crowd favorite with the alluring coastal scene enhanced with its gorgeous use of color and texture.

After a memorable camping day Susanna recalls jumping into a tide pool, sitting eye level to the water, just as the sun had set.
The beauty of way the light was changing the colors of the water overcame her.
She ran back to the shore, got her phone and returned to the tide pool to capture the moment.
Taking inspiration from that photo and the sweet memory of that moment, “Amongst the Stones at last Light” was created.

This original embellished block print is a limited edition of just seven. It measures 42x5x42.5” framed.
The rich pigments of the ink and fibrous texture of the paper are part of what makes this piece exceptionally beautiful.

“For this show I was inspired by my beloved years spent living on the North Shore of O’ahu, I pulled from the tones created by the vog of the recent eruption, salt spray from the high surf, and the filter of memory.
To accomplish this I challenged myself to not use black or highly contrasting colors as is my comfort in printmaking.
Although embroidery is used to accent the work, I would say this show is more focused on complex carving and printmaking skills, as well as the use of color theory- an area of art that I have just begun to truly dive into.”

A first look at part of one of Susanna Cromwell’s pieces for her upcoming solo exhibition “Salty Hues”.
This stunning block print features the Hawaiian native beach Naupaka plant.

The Naupaka flower is connected to a Hawaiian legend about a princess (Naupaka) and a commoner (Kaui) who were forbidden to be together due to their different social standings. In the story, Naupaka and Kauai are separated, and each receives a half-flower as a symbol of their love
