Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives, located in Honolulu’s Historic Capitol District, is the leading authority on Protestant missionary history in Hawaiʻi, and is known worldwide as the place where the Hawaiian written language was developed through the collaborative efforts of the missionaries, the ali‘i—the Hawaiian royalty—and the Hawaiian people. It preserves the two oldest doc

THIS FRIDAY 5pm-7pm Please join us for a brief presentation by HMH’s Director of Education about our educational and archival resources that provide an unbroken link to the educational mission of the Hawaiian Mission Houses today and invaluable insights into Hawaiian history, followed by Sommelier Krystal Kakimoto Krystal Kakimoto who will lead us in tasting wines that are reminiscent of the wines paired with the extravagant menu of King Kalākauaʻs coronation.

· 5:00 pm - 5:30 pm Welcome, Phil Acosta, Executive Director, and Introduction by Director of Education, Mike Smola
· 5:30 pm - 6:00 pm Presentation and Wine-Tasting with Krystal Kakimoto, Sommelier
(Limited to 26 guests)

Fee for two: Please bring a donation of wine and spirts valued at $75 or higher * You may also bring a cash donation for us to purchase a bottle to donate.

Sommelier, Krystal Kakimoto, will do an encore presentation, sharing about the wines served at the Kalākaua coronation, as presented at our February 2024 “Archives Uncorked” event. We will taste wines that would be reminiscent of the wines paired with the extravagant menu.

Bishop Museum Library and Archives Librarian by day, Krystal Kakimoto is a Certified Sommelier with the Court of Masters and Certified Wine Expert with the Society of Wine Educators. Krystal is a Kauaʻi native, who has cultivated a deep appreciation for the world of wine and loves sharing with the community. We very much appreciate her – and your – support for our Huakaʻi!

We will be serving light charcuterie.

The wine you bring as your fee will be donated to our annual gala fundraiser Huakaʻi wine auction. Your support for Huaka’i helps us host almost 50 schools and over 3,400 students on our site to learn about Hawai‘i’s history from our resources and offer Title I schools scholarships and bus transportation for field trips.
