In his later years, Picasso returned to a subject that fascinated him throughout his career: the relationship between the artist and the model. In this vibrant, large-format drawing, the two figures recline side by side, connected through flowing lines and softly modeled forms. The young draftsman—resembling the Dutch master Rembrandt in his painter’s smock and sturdy shoes—sits alongside a relaxed, full-figured model, creating an intimate scene of creativity and connection.

Rendered in luminous pastels of yellow, blue, ocher, and slate gray, the composition celebrates the act of making art and the enduring bond between artist and subject.

"Going Underground: The Jewels of Bernhard Schobinger" explores the groundbreaking work of the renowned Swiss avant-garde artist. Featuring more than 50 experimental jewelry pieces, this richly illustrated catalogue traces Schobinger’s radical career, from his influences in Dadaism and Concrete art to punk culture and Japanese aesthetics.

By transforming scavenged and unconventional materials into provocative works, Schobinger redefines jewelry as a medium for uncovering hidden histories and cultural narratives.

Art, music, and movement come together for Experience Salsa at the MFAH. 🎶

Kick off this new fall series at 5 pm on Friday, September 18, with curator-led gallery tours, a beginner-friendly salsa lesson, and social dancing set to vinyl selections by Manana Vida Social.

From visual echoes of salsa found throughout the Museum's collections to the energy of the dance floor, this is your chance to experience rhythm, culture, and community in a whole new way.
