Recently Caught: A few visits to Robert Godfrey's two studios in Hudson, NY, this summer. Here are a few glimpses of work in progress in his Prison Alley and State Street studios. Most images are from his ten or so ongoing series including: People on the Way to the Moon, A Necessary Romance, Spooky Actions From a Distance, Elective Affinities, The Blackboard Series, Drawings From Another Time, Space V***r, Darkness Is My Friend. The paintings, which are mostly industrial and commercial paint on alumimum panels, are worked on in his large studio on Prison Alley where his inventory and archives are also housed. His smaller loft on State Street is where his drawings and smaller mixed media works are done. Here, in addition to the industrial/commercial paints, Godfrey seems to use wax crayons, chalk, oil pastels. oil/beeswax pigment sticks and occasionally spray paint, including glitter.
