Ozaki Fine Art

Ozaki Fine Art www.yuriozaki.com Yuri Ozaki grew up in a small town in Mie Prefecture on the Kii Peninsula of Japan. Yuri came to the US in 2001 to study English.

The area is known for its unique wet climate and a mystical history. This area also features UNESCO World Heritage registered sacred sites and pilgrimage routes. While hiking some of these ancient trails during her visit to Japan in June 2011, Yuri was inspired to create a series of misty forest scenes. The beauty and mystery of her home region has been a strong influence on Ozaki's work. After fo

ur years of exploring the southeast, Yuri moved to Huntsville, AL - where she still resides with her husband. Since coming to Huntsville, she has been studying and painting much of the local scenery. Her paintings of downtown Huntsville have been very popular and these works - along with others - have earned her recognition and awards in the area.

Here’s the project for the Intermediate & Serious Beginners class on Saturday May 9th. It’s beginner‑friendly, but it takes around two hours to finish, so we’ll be doing it in the intermediate class rather than the 1‑hour session.
Although the website says to bring your own supplies, I’ll be providing materials for this one. If you’ve been thinking about stepping into a more serious class, this is a good opportunity.

Mother’s Day is approaching. You should definitely paint a seahorse or a jellyfish as a heartfelt gift. Gift certificates are available if your mom wants to paint one herself. Or just paint one (or two) simply because it’s fun (and easy). April 29- May 9th.

My first “Watercolor for Intermediate and Serious Beginners” class starts this Saturday from 3–5 PM, and there are 4 spots open. Each session is a stand‑alone class — you’ll finish a painting in one visit, and there’s no commitment to attend weekly. This class will be offered most Saturdays, except April 18 (I’ll be at an art festival). The beginner class (1-2pm) that day will be taught by Kae Partida. Sign up whenever you feel like painting.

One of my young students with her watercolor painting — she’s been to class about seven times now, and it’s been great watching her confidence grow. My studio classes are beginner‑friendly, relaxed, and open to all ages. You can join anytime for $27 per session (currently $25 on the booking site), with no membership or commitment — just come when it fits your schedule and paint.

I’m back from Japan!
Here’s the class project for April 8, 9, 10, and 11.
This lesson is a great introduction to the wet‑in‑wet technique—the place where watercolor really starts to feel magical. It can look intimidating at first, but I’ll break everything down step‑by‑step so you can enjoy the process and the surprises that come with it.
