Once upon a time a lil' girl from Butcher Holler, KY., fell in love with a rambunctious man from the same area, named "Doolittle" by his grandmother as a toddler. They married, had babies, and "Doo" discovered his young wife, "Loretta" could sing! He bought his wife a "Sears 'Decca"" guitar from a local pawn shop, and the rest is history! FLASH FORWARD to 1976, the Lynn Family had settled into the
historic plantation home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. When the couple found this property in the early 60's, they soon found that the historic antebellum home came with it's own town, post office and zip code! Located in Middle Tennessee, this newly owned town was settled on the banks of a wide "creek" of the same name and included a historic gristmill that was the life and economy of the post Civil War "Anderson Plantation" as the property was known. By 1976, this town and home of Loretta Lynn was becoming a popular destination for all of her fans of her music. Loretta had just published her best selling autobiography called "Coal Miner's Daughter" so many were eager to learn even more of this feisty singer from the hills of Eastern Kentucky. Loretta opened a small museum in a room inside of the historic gristmill. Her husband, "Mooney, as her was known by then", restored the gristmill and built her display cabinets himself. Loretta spent her time off the road from touring to set up her museum personally with even writing the handwritten descriptions herself. This quaint, personal museum was such a huge success with all of her fans world wide! However, with Loretta being such a "self proclaimed pack-rat", it would not be long before this grist mill museum proved to be too small to house her years of collecting! FLASH FORWARD to 2001..........
In the Spring of 2001, Loretta Lynn, "The Coal Miner's Daughter" welcomed Country Music fans, the music industry, and media, to the official grand opening of her brand new museum complex of the same name! This new 18,000 square foot museum built in her "Loretta Lynn Ranch" became not only a symbol and popular ranch attraction of this lady, but also an amazing educational tribute to the world of entertainment as well! Preserving all of this priceless archive of history, it was also then that the lady began this new museum to instill her "Loretta Lynn Foundation" too, in which this new complex of history is the foundation centerpiece! This OFFICIAL COAL MINER's DAUGHTER MUSEUM page is now being opened to share even more of this museum so that her fans can also be able to experience a bit more about this amazing Tennessee Attraction and the story of one of America's Iconic Women.
