The mammoth is always watching (but we love him) 🦣🫶

Columbian mammoths like this one were some of the largest mammoths, growing up to 14 feet tall and weighing 7-9 tons!

Show of hands 🙋how many people here have visited the gem corner?

Because it’s actually pretty cool. You’ll see amethysts, opals, and even a star garnet (Idaho’s state gemstone!) There are only two places in the world you can find star garnets: India and Idaho.

The museum isn’t the ideal place to break up, but it is the ideal place to learn more about the birth of America 🦅 🇺🇸

This 32-lb. cannonball was part of the British bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812, more than 30 years after the Revolutionary War. Fun fact: this was the same battle that inspired Francis Scott Key to write “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Our own personal nightmare🫣

If you’d like to learn more about the mammoths of Idaho or see a unique re-printing of the Declaration of Independence, stop by anytime! We are open Monday - Saturday, 10 AM - 6 PM and Sunday, 1 PM - 5 PM. Just don’t read the mountain man toothpick label.

In the words of our Executive Director, Jeff Carr, “travel is an incredible teacher” ✈️

Fifteen museum friends, led by Jeff and our Managing Director, Chloe Doucette, just returned from eleven days in the Balkans as part of our MOI Travel program! They wandered medieval cities, soaked up coastal views, and cooked like locals while exploring Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia.

If you’re interested in travelling with MOI, visit museumofidaho.org/travel for more information.
