Summer has now officially arrived, closing an epic chapter in the Tetons. While 2020 will mostly be remembered for the horrible crises through our country and world, spring this year in the Tetons helped dampen the darkness for many. For only the third documented time in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, a sow emerged from hibernation with four cubs. And since the sow was the beloved 399, many park visitors have watched these cubs learn and grow. [ 246 more words ]

The spring of 2020 in Grand Teton National Park was truly a spectacular season of wildflowers and wildlife.

Last week, on June 2, I arrived in Grand Teton National Park for my first visit since the park re-opened. I was anxious to see Grizzly 399 who amazingly emerged from hibernation this spring with four new cubs. She is 24 years old, which is getting up there for a wild bear. This is only the third documented time where a grizzly sow birthed four cubs in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. [ 558 more words ]

Grizzly 399 in Grand Teton National Park emerged from hibernation in the spring of 2020 with four new cubs. For nearly a week she was in the area between Leek's Marina and Pilgrim Creek, providing great photo opportunities.

Hopefully folks out there are staying home and staying safe. There is much unknown ahead, but this pandemic will eventually pass. Please remember to be socially responsible. I prefer the term "physical distancing" and "socially connecting." Yesterday I produced a slideshow video that was a bit cathartic for me and I hope might be inspiring for someone else.
