Indian Rocks Beach Historical Museum

Indian Rocks Beach Historical Museum THE MUSEUM WILL BE CLOSED JULY, AUGUST & SEPTEMBER 2025.

The Indian Rocks Beach Historical Society and Museum is dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and increasing awareness of what pioneer settler Harvey Hendrick called "the most beautiful place on God's green footstool."

At the City of Indian Rocks Beach, we believe our greatest treasure isn't just our beautiful shoreline, it's our people.

For generations, Indian Rocks Beach has worked to preserve the rich history, unique character, and small-town charm that make our community so special. As our City continues to grow and evolve, we remain committed to honoring our heritage while creating opportunities for neighbors to connect, stay informed, and become involved.

From community events and volunteer opportunities to Coffee with Neighbors, educational programs, and emergency preparedness initiatives, every effort is designed with one goal in mind: building a stronger, more connected community. Community doesn't happen by accident it happens when neighbors know one another, support one another, and take pride in the place they call home.

Now, we'd love your help telling the story of Indian Rocks Beach.

The City of Indian Rocks Beach would like to join Pinellas County's initiative to showcase why so many people love calling this incredible community home. We invite our neighbors and those who have visited and fallen in love with our little slice of paradise to share your favorite photos, the memories you've made along our beautiful shoreline, and the moments, places, and traditions that make Indian Rocks Beach so special to you.

Whether it's a breathtaking sunrise, a family beach day, a spectacular sunset, a local event, or simply a moment that made you smile, we want to see Indian Rocks Beach through your eyes.

Show off the reasons that would easily answer this question, “Who wouldn't want to call Indian Rocks Beach home?”

This is our time to shine. Let's show everyone what makes Indian Rocks Beach more than a destination it's a community where neighbors become friends, memories last a lifetime, and together, we're building something truly special, we’re Building Community.

📸 Share your photos and your memories in the comments below. We can't wait to celebrate Indian Rocks Beach with you! We’ll start it off with one of ours!

In addition to the above, please share with Pinellas County via the links from their post below:

On May 29, 2026, Pinellas County signed an amendment to our beach nourishment project coordination agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, addressing longstanding concerns over easement acquisitions. The updated agreement provides a way for the towns to address public access and use through ordinances instead of only by easement, as in the past.

A customary use ordinance recognizes and protects the public's longstanding right to use portions of the beach. If the public has openly, continuously, and historically used an area for a long period of time without interruption or dispute, that use may create a public right to:

• Walk along the beach
• Sit on the dry sand
• Fish, swim, or recreate

We’re looking for copies of your family photos or videos showing beach activities, written or oral personal recollections and any other documents demonstrating which beach areas the public has used throughout the years. We are particularly looking for documentation from the 1900s to 1950s, but any time period is appreciated and will be accepted.

A map and digital submission form are available at: https://pinellas.gov/customary-use

Indian Rocks Beach Community Potluck – Local Stories & Beach History

Our next Indian Rocks Beach community potluck March 28th at 12pm. After the potluck, it will feature a special guest who has spent years collecting the memories and stories that shaped our little beach town.

Local storyteller Mike Shea will be joining us for a conversation about the colorful past of Gulf Boulevard and the people, places, and moments that made Indian Rocks Beach such a unique coastal community.

If you’ve lived here for years, you’ll enjoy the nostalgia. If you’re newer to the area, it’s a great chance to learn about the personality and history that make IRB so special.

Bring a dish to share, meet your neighbors, and enjoy a relaxed lunch celebrating the stories that make our beach town home.

These gatherings are one of the best ways to stay connected with the Indian Rocks Beach community and keep our local traditions alive.
