ArtMix

ArtMix (formerly VSA Indiana) ArtMix transforms the lives of people with disabilities through the creation of art.

We fulfill our mission through a series of arts programs led by 20+ professional Teaching Artists who provide programming in schools, community centers, hospitals, and on-site in our adaptive arts studios. As a statewide nonprofit, ArtMix partners with people and organizations around the state to provide local access to accessible arts. Ongoing partnerships are currently based in Columbus, Evansvi

lle, and Muncie. Collectively these programs serve more than 6,000 people annually. Our primary focus is people with disabilities, however, we take an inclusive approach to implement programs and include a variety of people with and without disabilities.

This month we are featuring Teaching Artist and Studio Manager: Laura Imbriano 🎉💜

Laura first became involved with ArtMix in 2016 through a service learning partnership with the University of Indianapolis. What started as volunteering in Community Classes quickly grew into multiple roles throughout the organization before she officially returned to ArtMix in 2023 as a Teaching Artist and later become the Studio Manager in 2024.

Laura shares “I loved how open and accepting ArtMix was and I immediately felt like I fit in. The students were amazing and working with them gave me a purpose.”

As a ceramicist and potter, Laura loves working with clay and especially enjoys throwing on the pottery wheel. Through her time at ArtMix, she’s also developed a love for hand-building and helping students explore creativity in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Laura describes her teaching style as patient, laid-back, and welcoming, creating spaces where students can learn, explore, laugh, and grow confidence in their artistic abilities.

To Laura, accessible art means removing barriers so that everyone has the opportunity to create: “Anyone can be an artist, and accessibility provides the tools and opportunities to make it possible.”

ArtMix Presents… Imposter Syndrome: At Least She Has Her Pets 🐾

Join us for June First Friday as we debut a new collaborative exhibit by longtime friends and artists Laura Imbriano and Karlee Nielsen-Baker.

Through artwork inspired by their pets, Laura and Karlee explore themes about self-doubt, creativity, comfort, and reconnecting with the joy of making art.

Come experience this collection during June First Friday on June 5th from 6-9PM in the ArtMix Gallery.

Myth & Fact with ArtMix ✨

Not everyone knows exactly how ArtMix brings accessible arts programming to the Indianapolis community, so each month we are breaking down common myths and sharing the facts behind our mission and programs.

Myth: ArtMix only provides classes inside of our studios located in the Harrison Center.

Fact: Our residences and creative collaborations allow ArtMix Teaching Artists to teach at various schools and organizations throughout central Indiana.

From classrooms to community centers and beyond, we believe are should be accessible and present wherever people are.

The annual ArtMix Here’s the Scoop fundraiser at Bloombox is ONE MONTH from today! 🍨🎉

We are thrilled to partner with Howdys Ice Cream again this year to serve the best ice cream with our handmade ceramic ice cream bowls to you!

New this year, our Studio Production group worked hard on some new creations- ice cream ornaments and magnets! These were a challenge to make but turned out beautifully! We have a limited amount, so snag yours at Here’s the Scoop before they sell out! 😍

Come check it all out on Saturday, June 20 from 11am-7pm at The Harrison Center!

Congratulations Gretchen! 🎉🎓

Gretchen served as our intern this past semester and graduated from IU Indianapolis last week- we are so proud of you! 👏🏼

Gretchen will be returning to ArtMix for our Summer Urban Artisans program and we are so glad to have her leadership and skills back in the studios.
