Join the club, Denmark - we feel the same way.

The American president’s vow to get Greenland, the semiautonomous Danish territory, has thrown the tiny, pro-American Nordic nation into crisis.

This old Inverness postcard image shows children in the early 1900s standing on Alex Baily’s pier at the end of what is now Inverness Way North and Sir Francis Drake Blvd.. The white building peeking out on the right, with the red rooftop, is the Marwedel house, which was moved in the ‘teens to the lot next door. It’s still there today, two doors down from the Gables. The small buildings to the far left, where Dixon Marine is now located, are the changing huts used by beachgoers.
Presented are four different examples of this card that vary slightly in title, framing and color. The earliest postcard example, “Inverness near Petaluma, Cal.” was published by F.H. Atwater, Petaluma, and printed in Germany and posted in October, 1907. As time went on it continued being reissued by Edward Mitchell in San Francisco, and the card finally evolved into a more generic card, with “Inverness, California” covered up and replaced with “Vacation Time,” to broaden its potential audience.

Thanks to the who shared this Inverness postcard a week or so ago, which inspired this post.

Please join Dewey Livingston for a virtual history talk on Sunday, October 4th, at 6pm.
Dewey will be presenting "Swimming Around in West Marin's Past", another fascinating program featuring old photographs, maps, and news items. He will show how early surveyors depicted long gone (and some still here) landmarks and place names; a newly uncovered 1900-era Inverness family photo album will be dissected; and tidbits from the Marin County Journal, Petaluma Argus-Courier, and Point Reyes Light will add some fun.
The program benefits both the Dance Palace and the Jack Mason Museum. Donations are encouraged, but all can register for free to attend this unique Zoom presentation. Donation information will be given during the presentation.
Registration required.
Please note: Online capacity is limited; one registration is good for all those watching on a single device.
Registration will end 60 minutes before the start time.
Your Zoom link will be sent out via email 30 minutes prior to the event

Happy Independence Day! The annual Fourth of July races in Inverness were first established in 1904. This image dates to around 1910. While this year's races will not be held, we certainly look forward to seeing you all 2021. Please share any special memories you have of the races with us. We'd love to hear from you!
